Would you like to be a Masterchef but do not have the skills? Then organise a themed event instead!

Where do you get your ideas for events? How about reality TV? As we wave goodbye to The Biggest Loser and anxiously await the start to the second season of Masterchef we are truly in the midst of reality TV period. So how can you use this to your advantage?

Whether you subscribe to the idea of reality TV or not you cannot help look at some of the contestants in awe, whether they are able to lose 90kgs, cook a fantastic three course meal or sing like Susan Boyle. There is plenty of talent to go around.

For the rest of us there is playing and pretending and there is no age or skill limit for that. So whether you are a hopeless cook, have two left feet or cannot sing a note to save your live consider putting together a TV themed event instead. Here are some ideas:

  • Organise a finale party! Each show has a finale, which most tend to watch so gather a few friends or colleagues and have a party or dinner. Perhaps indulge in some show trivia as entertainment during the ads – use the show’s website as trivia information.
  • Network over a cooking stove rather than a golf course! Cooking courses are a fun way to meet and get to know new people in a relaxed environment. It makes for an interesting take on the common networking event.
  • Grab your team and organise a Karaoke night – plenty of venues have the right facilities and would be happy to reserve a private space for your group. Alternatively ask around, one of your colleagues might have the facilities at home.
  • Go to the theatre and watch some ex ‘So you think you can dance’ participants in their real element, perhaps coupling it with some workshop or talk. Most dance companies/groups organise workshops and talks to engage their audience in their latest production.

These events could also prove to be great fundraisers for a particular cause or not for profit organisation. Most are cheap to organise which means you can charge an entry fee and donate the rest.

There are several other options to explore so just put you on chef’s hat on and brainstorm on your potential next TV based event! Enjoy!
